WASHINGTON YOUTH TOUR

Jackson Energy’s Washington Youth Tour program offers high school juniors a chance to learn about the history of their country, how the federal government operates and also a chance to visit their nation’s capital through an all expense-paid program.

Students who participate in Youth Tour compete through an essay contest, and four winners are selected each year to take part in a week-long trip to Washington, D.C. The Washington Youth Tour is coordinated through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and most cooperative’s in Kentucky participate in the program. Approximately 75 Kentucky students make the journey to Washington, D.C. each year through the Youth Tour program. They also participate in a one-day Frankfort Youth Tour.

Applications for the contest are accepted beginning January 1st of each year and essays are due by March 1st. The winning students each receive an all expense-paid trip and are recognized at Jackson Energy’s annual meeting.
