Kentuckians Should Continue to Apply for the Appliance Rebate Program

The state is encouraging Kentucky residents to continue applying for rebates through the Kentucky Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program.

The total $4 million allocated to the program in the Commonwealth already has been reserved by applicants, but residents can place themselves on a waiting list.

“Often previous rebate reservations are not redeemed and those funds will become available to individuals on our waiting list,” said Virginia Phifer, the program’s manager.

The whole $4 million eventually will be awarded.

The program is funded by the Kentucky Department for Energy Development and Independence (DEDI) through the U.S. Department of Energy. The rebates are funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to stimulate job growth and reduce energy costs. Each state is eligible for a portion of the Act’s allotted $300 million based the state’s population.

Kentuckians can apply for a rebate by visiting www.KYappliancerebates.com or by calling the toll-free number 877-813-3669.

To be eligible, you must be a resident of Kentucky buying an appliance from a Kentucky retailer. The purchase must replace an older, less efficient product with a qualified ENERGY STAR appliance. (Consumers are strongly encouraged to recycle their old appliance.)

Kentucky is offering rebates on 16 types of ENERGY STAR-rated appliances, including clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, air conditioners, water heaters, heat pumps, gas furnaces and gas boilers. The rebates range from $50 for buying an ENERGY STAR dishwasher to $400 for a solar water heater.

You can find further information and answers to frequently asked questions at http://www.energy.ky.gov/recovery/rebate/.

There’s a limit of one rebate per product category. A rebate fulfillment company, under contract with the state, is reviewing all the rebate requests for eligibility and is monitoring the program to ensure fraud prevention.
