JEC students attend Frankfort Youth Tour

Three area students were among the more than 125 high school students from across Kentucky who visited the commonwealth's capitol as part of the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperative's Frankfort Youth Tour.

The program brings together students selected from their local electric cooperatives to tour Frankfort and learn about state government.

Representing Jackson Energy were Clay County High School student Megan Howard, South Laurel High's Jessica Lemley and Joanie Alexander, who attends Rockcastle County High School. The junior students were selected toattend the program based on an essay contest conducted by the cooperative.

During the day-long program the students toured the state capitol, the governor's mansion and the Kentucky Vietnam Memorial. They also met with Kentucky Gov. Steve Breshear and heard presentations from government officials and Frankfort report Jack Brammer, who works with the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Also addressing the students were the Honorable Bill Cunningham, Kentucky Supreme Court Justice, and Megan Cummins, with the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority.
