News9/4/2008 Applications to be accepted for grant programApplications for an energy efficiency program to help low income residents lower their electric bills will be accepted beginning September 15. Jackson Energy was awarded the $1 million grant funding by the USDA Rural Development Electric Program. Residents living in Clay and Owsley counties may apply for the grant. Daniel Boone Community Action Agency will be taking the Clay County applications at their Manchester office from September 15 through October 10. Middle Kentucky Comunity Partnership, Inc., will be taking the Owsley County aplications at their Booneville office from September 15 through October 3. To be eligible or the program, residents need to meet the following qualifications - * Electric and other heating source bills total at least $2509 per year. Applicants need to provide documention of the total, either from their electric provider or from another heating supply source, such as a propane dealer. * Applicants need to provide proof of ownership, either in the form of a deed, or in the case of a mobile home, a title to the home. * Family income can not exceed 160% of the poverty level for the family size. These yearl y income levels include - not more than $16,640 for one-person household, not more than $22,400 fo a two-person household, not more than $28,160 for a three-person household and not more than $33,920 for a four-person household. Applicants need to provide proof of entire household income. Acceptable documents may include , but are not limited to,the following: SS/SSI award letter or copy of check; 105 form from Department of Community Based Services; proof of wages - all check stubs from prior month or verification completed by employer. Jackson Energy will provide final notification when an application has been approved for funding. Applicants will be notified by November 1st. The money will be used to weatherize homes and install energy efficiency upgrades that will reduce the homeowner's electric bills by an estimated 25 to 30%. This project is supported in part with funds from the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Rural Utilities Service.
