Remembering Fred Callahan
Former Jackson Energy Board Chairman Fred Callahan passed away Saturday, May 28. He was 94 years old. Mr. Callahan was elected as the Owsley County representative in 1961 and later served as chairman of the Jackson Energy Board of Directors for 27 years. He also served on the board of the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives.
Mr. Callahan was a former basketball coach, educator, banker and a World War II veteran. He and his wife, Louise, had two daughters. "Mr. Callahan was a true advocate for Jackson Energy," said JEC President & CEO Carol Wright.
Jackson Energy experienced tremendous growth in both number of members, as well as programs and services offered to co-op members during his tenure on the board.
"Our deepest sympathy to Mr. Callahan's family and all of Jackson Energy," said a spokesperson with the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives. "We honor his years of service to Kentucky's electric cooperatives, his community and our nation."
